Warrior Challenge 2017

The Maryland Wing is hosting a Warrior Challenge at Gunpowder Military Reservation on Notchcliff Road in Glen Arm, MD from 22 Sept - 24 Sept 2017. The MDWG Warrior Challenge is a fun activity that reinforces the principles of leadership, teamwork & problem solving while at the same time allowing cadets to interact with cadets from around the Wing. Teams will be determined upon arrival at Gunpowder so that each group is diversified containing cadets from multiple squadrons and various CAP grades.

Squadron Commanders and Deputy Commanders of Cadets are requested to relay this information to your unit and encourage the widest participation by the cadets. Each squadron should plan to send at least one senior member with their group. The senior members will man the various stations, escort the teams or help out in the mess hall.

Our challenge will be a mash-up of SurvivorTM and Amazing RaceTM featuring events such as orienteering, fire-starting, scavenger hunt, puzzles, brain work, etc. Teams will score points at each of the ten (10) stations and the team with the most points will be crowned the MDWG Warrior Team for 2017. Cadets will also compete in a tug-o-war competition just for fun; it will not be graded/scored as part of the competition.

All those who wish to participate must complete the registration form. In addition, cadets will need to complete CAPFs 31 signed by their parents/guardian (including their squadron commander’s approval), CAPF 32, CAPF 160, CAPF 161 and CAPF 163 (minor’s only). Senior members attending will complete CAPF 17 (with all approvals), CAPF 160 and CAPF 161. Completed forms should be scanned and emailed to no later than September 15, 2017.

The cost for the weekend is $30 per person which includes all meals on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday and materials for the competition. Snacks and drinks will also be provided for the weekend. Payment should be made through PayPal. You may bring your own snacks which must be kept in the mess hall as we’ll be sleeping in the woods and there are critters roaming about.

The primary uniform for the weekend will be BDUs/ABUs (or corporate equivalent), but participants should also bring PT gear, including tennis shoes with them. Participants may arrive in civvies on Friday and they can be worn at night during down time. Our lodging will be in large, military tents on concrete slabs. Everyone should bring a sleeping bag, pillow and sleeping pad.

Staff members should plan to arrive before 1500 while participants should arrive between 1800 and 2030 on Friday. Everyone will be dismissed after the tug-o-war competition and completion of clean-up but no later than 1300 hours on Sunday.
