12/31/2003—Michelle Mattingly accepts appointment to U.S. Naval Academy
Cadet 2d Lt. Michelle Mattingly of Leonardtown, Md. has accepted an offer of appointment to attend the U.S. Naval Academy as a midshipman in the class of 2008.
11/26/2003—Maryland Wing's post-September 11 recovery efforts earn award from American Society of Association Executives
Civil Air Patrol was honored as one of only six national winners of the 2003 Summit Award presented by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
11/10/2003—Maryland Wing featured on cable TV program
"THREATCON DELTA: Your Role in Homeland Defense - The Civil Air Patrol," with actual footage of search and rescue practice missions conducted by the Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, is featured on Comcast Cable TV in Montgomery County, Md.
11/03/2003—Members receive lifesaving award
A Civil Air Patrol (CAP) pilot and his two-man crew didn't know it would lead to receiving medals for lifesaving when they took off about 20 minutes later than they had planned for a routine mission.
10/28/2003—Three Maryland Wing cadets win awards at regional competition, one takes first-place honors
Three cadet members representing the Maryland Wing received awards at the Middle East Region cadet speech competition called "Speak-off".
10/04/2003—Director of Operations receives search and rescue certification
Lt. Col. Kevin W. Redman of Clarksville, Md., director of operations for the Maryland Wing, has received a search and rescue certification administered by the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR).
07/30/2003—Six cadets graduate from 2003 MD Wing solo school - one scores 100 percent
Six cadet members of the Maryland Wing were honored at a Wing Pinning Ceremony after completing the one-week 2003 Maryland Wing Solo School held at Hagerstown Regional Airport.
07/29/2003—Maryland Wing participates in annual search and rescue college
Twenty-eight members of the Maryland Wing joined more than 215 others at CAP's Middle East Region Search and Rescue College held at Fort Pickett, Va.
07/17/2003—Four Maryland Wing members graduate from Middle East Region Staff College
Four members of the Maryland Wing were among the 27 who graduated from CAP's Middle East Region Staff College held June 22-28 at Peace College, Raleigh, NC. Two Maryland Wing members also served as staff.
06/23/2003—Assistant administrator of Drug Demand Reduction program appointed
Sarah Smith of Williamsburg, Va. has been appointed assistant administrator of the Drug Demand Reduction Program (DDRP) of the Maryland Wing.
06/13/2003—Seven senior members complete Squadron Leadership School
Seven senior members have successfully completed a Squadron Leadership School hosted by the Mount Airy Composite Squadron at the Frederick Composite Squadron headquarters.
05/23/2003—New commander of Frederick Composite Squadron
Capt. Richard Palace of Frederick, Md. has been named commander of the Frederick Composite Squadron of the Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). The announcement was made by Lt. Col. John Knowles, commander of the wing's Group IV.
05/09/2003—Civil Air Patrol squadron teaches cadets to soar at Essex Skypark
The Osprey squadron, named after an indigenous bird, originated out of a 120-member squadron at Martin State Airport. It has 15 cadets and six senior members.
05/05/2003—Twelve complete Ground Team and Urban Direction Finding training
Twelve members have successfully completed a ground team member / urban direction finding team ground school hosted by the Annapolis Composite Squadron.
04/30/2003—Cadet passes multi-engine airplane FAA check ride
Cadet Captain Patrick "Pat" Smith of the Glenn L. Martin Composite Squadron in the Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), passed his multi-engine check ride.
04/28/2003—Maryland Wing member named Cadet Commander of National Blue Beret
Michael A. Crockett of Gaithersburg, Md. has been named cadet commander for National Blue Beret, a special cadet activity at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual Oshkosh, Wis. fly-in.
03/28/2003—College Park Composite Squadron winner of Wing color guard competition
The College Park Composite Squadron was the winner of the 2003 Maryland Wing Color Guard Competition.
03/12/2003—New air to ground video downlink data system unveiled
Flight crews, ground teams, and mission controllers will be able to work more closely than they ever have before, thanks to a data system that directly transmits pictures from CAP aircraft to a ground station.
02/11/2003—Maryland Wing names two cadet programs officers and two interns
Four members of the Maryland Wing have been named to Maryland Wing cadet programs positions, according to an announcement by Maj Tori Kyler Steinmeier of Baltimore, the wing’s director of cadet programs.
01/23/2003—Members receive certificates for advanced first aid course
Certificates have been awarded to 20 members of the Maryland Wing who successfully completed a two-day advanced first aid course held on Jan. 11-12 in Jessup, Md.
