- During a banquet held on February 3, 2013, Civil Air Patrol’s Maryland Wing recognized 27 cadets who completed the Squadron Operations and Administration Retreat (SOAR) held that weekend.

- Civil Air Patrol national vice commander Brig. Gen. Joseph R. Vazquez, CAP, and his wife, Lt. Col. Leslie Vazquez, CAP, visited Maryland Wing's Wicomico Composite Squadron in Salisbury, Md., to meet the members and to participate in a promotion program.

- Civil Air Patrol senior members and cadets from Maryland Wing's Fort McHenry, St. Mary’s, and Annapolis Composite Squadrons gathered to launch rockets on a 100 acre field in a brilliant blue sky with winds from the southwest and mild temperatures.

- Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Douglas C. Roach, who in 1964 became the first recipient of Civil Air Patrol’s highest cadet award, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award, died Jan. 11 at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., from complications related to cancer. He was 70
