—Members of the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing along with members from wings along the East Coast are busy preparing for the impact and potential aftermath of Hurricane Earl, a now-downgraded Category 2 hurricane expected to pass by the mid-Atlantic coast Friday, September 3.

Congressional Gold Medal endeavor needs support

—Civil Air Patrol national commander Maj. Gen. Amy S. Courter, CAP, has requested support in gaining cosponsors for legislation in the House and Senate which will award a single Congressional Gold Medal in honor of Civil Air Patrol’s World War II volunteer members.

CAP members attend Air Force Space Command Familiarization Course in Colorado

—Twenty-four cadets from across the nation learned about space careers at the Air Force Space Command Familiarization course held at Peterson Air Force Base, Co., during July. During their stay in Colorado the cadets got to experience day-to-day operations of the Air Force Space Command and military installations.

Civil Air Patrol saves 100 lives for the year

Successful SAREX trains Group II members in Salisbury

—Using the Civil Air Patrol Wicomico Composite Squadron’s headquarters as the incident command post at Salisbury-Ocean City-Wicomico Airport (SBY), Group II and other Maryland Wing members gathered recently to conduct a search and rescue exercise (SAREX) to practice their varied skill sets and to learn new ones.

More than 200 CAP members train at annual Tri-Wing Encampment

—Civil Air Patrol members recently completed the 2010 Tri-Wing Encampment, held July 18-25 at Camp Fretterd Military Reservation in Reisterstown, Md. Hosted by the Maryland, Delaware, and National Capital Wings, nearly 240 staff and cadet basics from all three CAP wings came together to train.
